Class-approved cold straightening
MarineShaft is specialized in class-approved cold straightening of all types of shafts. We can repair a damaged and bent propeller shaft, tail shaft, intermediate shaft, ram shaft, cam shaft, rudder stock, rotor shafts, generator shafts etc. with short delivery time.

We have many years of experience and our straightening method is approved by all the leading classification societies as a permanent repair without any conditions. This shaft alignment service was first approved by Bureau Veritas in 1972.

How to put a bent shaft straight?
The cold straightening of shafts is carried out with our purpose-built hydraulic press and our biggest press can press with up to 6,000 tonnes. This is a cold process without use of any heating.

How big shafts can be straightened?
We can straighten shafts from 20 mm up to 1,500 mm in diameter with no limitation to the length.

All shafts are thoroughly inspected and tested before and after straightening for crack indications. All work is done in close co-operation with the classification societies, and a certificate is issued on each individual repair.

A propeller shaft often gets damaged, when the shaft line arrangement suffers failures. Damages also occur during shaft redrawal or when removing the couplings etc.

We specialize in repair of damaged rudder stocks. We have the workshop machining facilities to repair rudder stocks of all sizes and with short delivery time. No matter if you need a repair of the rudder stock alone or the complete rudder arrangment we have the reconditioning expertise.

We have repaired all types of damages on rudder stock and our repair techniques are fully class-approved. We have the class approved welding certificates to start a repair immediately. This is an important factor when time matters. All repairs of a rudder stock includes an inspection and NDT test upon arrival in our workshop. As we keep a large stock of stainless steel and bronze material for manufacturing of a new sleeve, bushing etc. we can reduce the repair time significant.

If the rudder stock is bent we can cold straighten the rudder stock with class approval.
If the rudder stock is suffering from corrosion problems or others we can weld up the rudder stock using MAG-welding or other welding types
If the rudder stock needs a new flange we can manufacture and replace
